However you know her, our friend Kat Frye needs some help.
Kat is an adjunct English & Composition instructor at a community college in central Florida. She has been a professor for 15 years, and has worked hard during that time to help students learn how to navigate academic writing.
Early in February, she went into the emergency room with severe pain on her right side. Tests revealed a large pelvic mass that is suspicious for cancer (malignancy).
After two months of testing, they cannot determine the malignancy of the mass, and her doctors want her to undergo surgery to remove the mass and biopsy it. Because of the severity of the mass, she needs a hysterectomy.
Kat will be in the hospital 2-3 days, and will need 2 weeks of bed-rest, with 6 weeks of recovery in all. During this time, she will be under doctors' order to refrain from work. Bills are already piling up and she is without a network or resources to support her.
The surgery is scheduled for mid April, and will cost her $14,000 out of pocket, but they need $5,000 up front, and the rest can be paid in installments.
Kat is a private, self-sufficient person who has always been there for her family, friends, and frankly, anyone else she saw in need. I told her that she was loved by her friends- be they in person, or online, and even though reaching out is difficult, that is was necessary. I told her that she would find encouragement and support. Please help prove me right.
