Kasi's Fire Fund

Around 12am last night a phone call turned our girl's night sleep over into a devastating sequence of sirens, tears, and lack of understanding. Our best friend, Kasi, received a panicked call that her house was in flames. Taking what seemed like forever to travel a short few blocks, our first sight of the house was a blur of cloudy lights and thick black smoke. With all four roommates returning home due to similar frantic phone calls, everyone was frozen in shock at the sight. Kasi, keeping her calm as always, managed to stay calm and strong until one of the firemen pulled her aside to inform her that her room was the source of the fire. Worst of all, nothing was left. Breaking into tears she came running into our arms expressing feelings of guilt, fear, but most of all confusion. She had not left on any lights, hot irons, or candles. In fact, she had not been home since 2pm when she left for the library. The only ideas running through her head were the flickering lights and giant fallen tree in her front yard that both resulted from the hurricane. As the girls filed in once the house was declared safe, we anxiously waited to see her come out the door with some items that she could use for the next few days. While the other girls managed to get a few bags full of clothes and necessities, she came out empty handed. Nothing was left. Her room had been completely incinerated. Even after facing the reality of the situation she still stayed stronger than any of us could have. She is still in a state of shock and disbelief. As her best friends, we are here to support her and offer her the closet that she no longer has, but we need your help. She has not just lost a few items in the flames, she has lost everything she owns, some of which are irreplaceable. However, for what can be replaced, we need to start somewhere. With your donations, we will help our beautiful best friend rebuild her life here at The University of Florida and help her continue on her path of being the best biology nerd out there!
