Karuri School Project

Who We Are & What is Our Goal

We are a small group of work colleagues from England.
Our names are Mickey Ncube, Natasha Horne and Loraine Acton and we would welcome any help in our quest to raise money for a very special school in Kenya  which is called The Sacred Heart School. The school was set up to provide education for orphaned and destitute children in a remote part of Kenya. The school raises funds via a charity that is registered in the UK called The Karuri Project.
Although the school has been operational since 2011 they still have a lot of work to do and they have to continually raise money to educate the children and care for them as well as trying to further improve the facilities.

The school still has many temporary classrooms that are built from wood straight onto bare mud, which often flood during the winter season and can provide uncomfortable conditions for these young children eager to learn and make the most of the life they have been given.  We would like to raise enough money to replace these temporary buildings with four purpose built classrooms and to do this we need to raise £2750 per classroom or £11,000. We have included some pictures below to show the classrooms that we would like to replace.

We are travelling to Kenya in June 2017 and whilst there we will be helping with ongoing work at the school which will include painting classrooms, fixing and securing door hinges, screwing together disjointed school furniture and mending broken fences. We will be accomodated at the school in a dormatory where we will live and eat with the children and teachers, this way we can truely experience what the school has to offer and get a real understanding of what the school provides for these very poor or orphaned children.
We are all committed and passionate about this project and we hope that you can support this worthy cause with a donation which we know will be so appriciated by all concerned with the school.
All money raised from this appeal will be donated to the school towards the building of permanant classrooms. Every penny helps please support us in our quest to give these children some new classrooms.

What is the Karuri School Project?

The Karuri School Project is an ambitious attempt to bring education to the children of a remote area of Kenya. It is the dream of one woman, Wangari Karuri, who experienced at first hand the shocking effects of poverty in countries around the world.

How did the Karuri School Project start?

In 2008 whilst working in England Wangari Cecilia Karuri

decided to save every penny she could, hoping to fulfil her vision by saving enough to build a school for the orphaned, poor and vulnerable children of the Kahuru district of her homeland. Her dedication and hard work over the last few years is amazing. The school is taking shape, and the dream is gradually becoming reality. Supported by her family in Kenya, and by friends in the UK, she has raised enough money to buy the land and put up the first classrooms. The school is formally known now as The Sacred Heart Primary School, and the first children started as day students in January 2011. However, there is still much more work to be done and many obstacles to be overcome, so it is more vital than ever to continue to raise funds to maintain and improve the functions of the school.
Once the trip has taken place we will update details and photos to this and our individual facebook pages.

The School Children

The picture above shows one of the children who lives at the school, she is disabled and is an orphan.

The picture below shows a young boy who was also orphaned in very sad circumstances, he was taken in by the school and is now being cared for and educated at the school. The picture shows him prior to joining and now.
