Studying abroad is supposed to be the best time of a college student’s life- educationally and culturally.
Unfortunately, for me, mine ended with an event that causes me to be a statistic. An event that allows me to say #MeToo.
In America, only 6/1000 rapists are sent to jail and only 310/1000 acts of rape are reported to the police.
Imagine you’re in a foreign country and you are sexually assaulted or raped, but you’re only visiting for a weekend or a semester.. how likely are you to go the police?
When I told the police what happened, they were able to describe my attacker to me before I finished my story because so many other young women had come forward previously. This spring, he is going on trial and I, along with his other victims, have been asked to testify against him.
For the safety of myself and other young women, this man needs to go behind bars.
Please help me make the world more safe for young women globally.
The money raised from this Go Fund Me will help offset the cost of travel and accommodations during my trial and any lawyer or translator fees etc that may come into play during my case. All extra funds raised will be donated toward charities in Florence that help protect women from domestic abuse and more.
