Karly’s Handicapped Bathroom

Hi, my name is Tracy (Sernyik) Venus – I am a mom to a physically disabled daughter.  Karly was born with hydrocephalus, Cerebral Palsy and seizure disorder and has been disabled since birth.  I am reaching out for help which is something I never do.  I have always handled every obstacle that came with raising a disabled child on my own without asking for help.  I lost my husband suddenly when Karly when was very young so the responsibility has been mine alone for most of her life and I have always managed to make it work somehow.  Karly is older now and much bigger and her needs are changing.  Getting Karly in and out of the bathtub is significantly more difficult due to her size.  I lift and carry Karly in and out of the tub and makes it unsafe for us. Now that she’s 18 and only a few inches shorter it tough to move her around. The bathroom is not handicap accessible so I am unable to maneuver her chair into the bathroom.   I have had several estimates to have the bathroom redone to be handicap accessible and sadly the cost is completely unaffordable for me.

The bathroom will need to have a rolling shower with a low tub for Karly to soak in for therapy to her legs and will need to have an overhead lift for lifting Karly in and out of the tub, which will be a safer option for both of us as I constantly worry about her falling as I am trying to balance her.  The toilet and sink will also need to be made handicap accessible.  I have found a contractor who is ready to begin working on the bathroom; however, I am unable to raise this money on my own.  I have exhausted every possible avenue before reaching out as I am not someone who ever asks for help from anyone.  I am asking for any help I can get and every little bit will be greatly appreciated.
