Karl's Stem Cell Transplant

Jacki Arena Interiors, Inc is reaching out to our design community, friends and family to raise medical funds for our Design Coordinator, Karl Armson. Karl was diagnosed in December of 2015 with stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma completely by surprise. Karl just successfully completed his sixth and final round of monthly chemotherapy treatments. During that time, he has been able maintain a part time work schedule as his health and energy permitted.
On June 2nd, 2016, Karl will begin the next phase of his treatment with a stem cell / bone marrow transplant. June 2nd through June 6th he will receive intense daily injections to bring out his stem cells. On June 6th he will undergo a 12-14 hour stem cell collection that may have to be repeated on June 7th if they are not able to collect enough the first day. On June 10th, he will be admitted into Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa where they will administer lethal doses of chemotherapy continuously for the first week which will kill any remaining cancer cells, his bone marrow, and compromise his cognitive functions. They will then replace his stem cells with his own stem cells they filtered out and he will be quite ill during this week. He will be hospitalized a third week while being monitored in isolation and then released to a nearby establishment for transplant patients where he will stay for two weeks with friends and family volunteering round the clock supervision. His immune system as well as cognitive functions will come back within 5-6 weeks of the procedure where he will then be able to recover at home for another several weeks. He will be out of work for 2-4 months, depending on his rate of recovery.
Karl has been part of our JAI family for the past year and we care very deeply for him. We are asking for prayers to cover him through this challenging procedure. We would like funds to be available to him throughout this process so he does not have to carry a financial burden through this time and can concentrate on his physical rehabilitation. We look forward to celebrating his return to JAI by the end of this year and being able to go into the new year with a clean bill of health and a fresh new start!
