Volunteer trip to Ghana

Beschermde donatie
Welcome to my Ghana fundraising page.
For those who know me, you will know that my strong passion is not only for dance and performing, but also for delivering messages and inspiration though my artistic work to create a positive difference in the community.
I have been in the dance industry for a while, and I experience that it is often centered around "me, myself and I", which causes that we as artists often overlook the big impact we can have on the worlds current issues by collaborating and using our artistic work as a message board to reach out and inspire change.
Dance is a powerfull tool that can be used to create positive differences in peoples lives and in the worlds current issues.
Dance can reach out to inspire change, and develop strong relationships that can strengthen a community.

What am I doing?
After an application process - I have been accepted to join a group of dancers in Ghana to build workshops empowering women and build a bridge to connect the dance community.
Awareness Through Dance (ATD) is a nonprofit organization that is inspired to harness dance to engage, inform and empower women and related social issues whilst proving life-changing experiences to performers around the world.

Through this exchange I, along with the team, will work in conjunction with music /art centres as well as partner with a few local women’s shelters. Working alongside with the local community will be an opportunity to enhance teaching skills and cultural exchanges. ATD and I are passionate about women’s issues worldwide and through this exchange we aim to bring awareness and assistance not only to ‘western dancers’ and the women of Ghana but to a wider audience. I believe that dance have an effect that words cannot compare with. Dance breaks down barriers and releases endorphins that are so often pushed to the side. By immersing dancers in Ghanaian lifestyle ATD hopes to build a bridge with Ghanaian women as well as raising the bar for women worldwide.

We will perform in schools and community centers; following the performances there will be led discussions interpreted on the particular social issues brought up. I have a strong belief and passion for this work, and am honoured to be chosen to take part in it!

To be able to go into a city, town or village and share a message using the language of movement, without the use of a common language, is an incredible opportunity for me and something I want to be involved in. This opportunity to impact change in real life issues facing women in Ghana, through dance, drama and music that incorporates cultural customs and traditions, would be a life changing experience that would enrich me both personally and professionally. This 3-week experience in Ghana with ATD would further my career with a large step forward.

As an emerging artist, I know I have a lot more to learn... However: I am today capable of offering an openness to new experiences, a passion to share, and a gift of helping and inspiring change though my dedication and hard work.

The trip is to take place May 17th 2015 "“ June 7th 2015, with a group of 15 people.

My aim with the trip to Ghana with Awareness Through Dance is to:
- Gain an outstanding and life changing experience that will inspire me and educate me to keep developing positive differences through the arts.
- Create an educational and interactive relationship with on the ground artists, dancers and musicians + experience a completely different culture in dance that will enable me to grow as a dancer and teacher.
- Form a sustainable relationship with an on the ground women's charity/project, using dance to raise awareness and support for women's empowerment.
- Have some form of sustainable impact on women's empowerment in the local community.

ATD's fee of £2070 will cover:
- Flights
- Support
- All food and drink during the stay in Ghana
- All scheduled workshop costs and rehearsal costs
- Accommodation
- Specialist equipment
- In-country transport
- Fundraising donation to on the ground projects
- On the ground excursions (Inc. a 4 day Ghanaian experience)

The extra £450 is a minimum for
VISA, Vaccinations (close to £300), and health insurance costs.
+ a round trip Trondheim/London, as we are leaving together as a group from there, but I think I will be able to cover this round trip expense myself.

What happens if I raise more than the set ammount?
Well, then I can do more for the girls in Ghana! More money means more resources and material. I can assure you I will spend every £ wisely.
