Debbie Smith: Wound Vac is Back

Donation protected

Our girl Debbie has had a rough few months. She had a minor surgery back in November to repair damage from a surgery she had in 2010 (due to a cancer scare). The surgery in November went seemingly well, but in December the incision unexpectedly opened - leaving her with a gaping wound across her abdomen. Ouch!

After weeks and weeks of standard wound dressings and protocol, the wound was determined to be “chronic," and she was sent to a Wound Care Specialist. (FYI - a chronic wound is one that doesn't heal in an expected way or in a predictable amount of time.)

As a result, she was set up with a Wound Vac -- which she named “KarGASHian,” because it sucks. HA! The negative pressure vacuum is just what her wound needs in order to heal, but it comes with a hefty price tag.

And that’s where we come in…

She doesn’t know I’m doing this, but I know she could use our help to offset the $2,500 of medical bills she’s incurred the last two months of twice-weekly doctor's visits to the hospital in Atlanta to see her wound care specialist as well as the daily cost to rent the pricey wound vac.

Also, for the last six weeks, she’s had to wash her hair in the kitchen sink, charge the vac in an outlet near her bed while she sleeps at night and has to lug around a 5-pound vac that's connected to her abdomen. Amazingly, she does all this with a beautiful smile on her face.  But I'd love to see if we can lighten her load a bit...at least a little financially.  Please join me in donating what you can.
