Karen Wiggins  joined the angels in heaven on November 1, 2017. She was a remarkable woman who touched more lives that I can even count and continued to until the day she died. She truly was beautiful, inside and out.

This is just one of the hundreds of comments made on Facebook, written by Teresa Cornett:

"For a few years in the 2000s, I worked with a colleague at George Elementary who taught kindergarten. She went to great lengths to replace a stuffed rabbit with a real-life classroom pet rabbit, drew a beautiful chalk portrait of each student as they were student of the week, and played Puff the Magic Dragon and The Rainbow Connection on her guitar for the kids. When she and her husband retired from their local jobs, they sold everything to move to serve the folks in Tanzania. When a former colleague and one-of-a-kind teacher who was CRAZY about pink passed on, Karen Wiggins started a new preschool in her honor and designed happy uniforms in hot pink! When she'd come home, we'd gather to hear her magical safari stories of children sitting under a tree on a wooden bench, and future teachers who were eager to learn about being better educators. I count this friendship as one of many of the wonderful ones in my life-how blessed I've been to know people who find their passion and run with it."

Karen loved all children, but focused the last 12 years of her life on the children in Bunda, Tanzania. She started a school on their property and loved to sing with them. But she did so much more... instructing teachers in the Montessori method, teaching hygiene to adults, and spreading her knowledge to anyone who would listen in order to benefit the people in their area.

And now that school needs help to continue. As written by her husband and my brother, "As faith missionaries, we receive no funding from any denomination or society or church but have run our mission for twelve years primarily just on our Social Security and retirement. As was the case most of our life, Karen supplied the lions share of those funds with her teachers retirement that will now cease. We will cut back all we can, and we will keep the preschool for orphans open and feeding those dear little ones to the very end." Their mission needs assistance and what better way to pay tribute to Karen. She 's smiling down on all of us.
