ABOUT THE ARTIST:
If you had asked me back in high school, what I intended to do with the rest of my life, it would have been the same response as if you had asked me yesterday or today: "To write and perform timeless music that will make a difference...that will reach the hearts and souls of those in the audience."
It's always been pretty clear what I was built to do, even as a 5 year old singing to the top of my lungs in the living room of our family home in East TN, and writing songs to express just about every aspect of life, from laughter and joy, to sorrow, grief, and even praise. Music has always been my best friend, my prayer and my dream. My name is Karen E. Reynolds and I am an independent singer songwriter from Knoxville, TN. As a touring artist and published songwriter, I'm blessed to have been living my dream for the last 20 years. I have written with or shared stages with some of the most accomplished artists/songwriters in the industry. My music has been aired on radio stations across the US and abroad, and some incredible artists have recorded my songs on their own cds. I have performed for crowds 20-30 thousand strong as a featured artist at well known festivals and have made my way onto some impressive stages. I have some awards that I'm mighty proud of hanging on my wall, am a music industry consultant, am the host/program director of a world wide radio program, and have taught songwriting and music business for a variety of universities, songwriting organizations and music conferences. But I don't want to yarn on with my resume'. I would rather talk about the music and why I'm launching this campaign. ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN AND HOW YOU CAN HELP:
After having released 3 self produced, independent cds that attracted interest from promoters, publishers (both major and independent), labels and radio, along with a fan base that has been steadily growing, I have just released my newest cd, 'Paper Castles'. This project was particularly exciting considering I had signed an artist deal with a Nashville record label last fall. But, as things sometimes go where indie deals are concerned, that arrangement didn't work out as I had hoped (prayed!) and I found myself, after writing the songs and making the arrangements to release a new cd, without a deal or the money to do it. Fortunately, a private investor with an interest in independent artists, believed in me and stepped up with a deal providing the funds to record and produce the cd. A true blessing!

'Paper Castles' represents my best work to date, and I'd like to promote it in an appropriate fashion. However, the investment deal only covers production, not promotion or tour support....that's where YOU come into the mix! In order to effectively promote this fine recording and these songs that have been so lovingly crafted by myself and a list of skilled and talented co-writers, I need your help.
MY plan is to take my band on the road with me on a major city US tour (already on the agenda are TN, OH, AL, GA, NC, FL and MS!), complete with radio/media promotion and full distribution. All of this takes money, up front, before the first mile is driven and before stepping foot on the first stage. Touring with a band requires additional logistics, accommodations and increased travel expenses. Effective promotion can include designing and printing posters, designing, developing and printing media kits, mailing out these materials to venues, reviewers and program directors, print ads to advertise concerts, and that doesn't even begin to cover the expense of promotional merchandise that reinforces the 'brand' of the artist and the cd itself.
I have set a goal of $5,000.00, with a 'wild dream' of actually raising $8,000. Every dollar I raise with this campaign will help to provide hotel rooms, gasoline, van rental and insurance, the development and purchase of promotional merchandise, mailing expenses of posters and cds to venues, radio stations and the media, and a large variety of additional travel and promotional expenses, as well as, helping to adequately pay my musicians, who, along with being skilled and talented professionals, are also some of the nicest guys on the planet.
Bottom line, this is a tremendous undertaking that requires both skill and money to make it all work. The upside is, I have been preparing for this endeavor my entire life. I have built a knowledge of the music industry that is necessary for success and the songs and music on this new cd are worthy of this step. I'm ready for this...and you can help me achieve this portion of my dream by providing a contribution in return for one of the many incentives you will receive in appreciation for your support. I will admit that it's not easy for me to ask for help. I've never side stepped hard work and have always earned my way. But I hope you will join me in making a difference with this music the old fashioned way: out on the road, where the fans are...one listener at a time.
