Karin Del Angel-Road to Recovery

On Friday September 1st, 2017 Karin went into the hospital complaining of flu like symptoms. She went in with redness in her eyes and blisters on her lips. At first they thought it was hand, foot and mouth diseases and was sent home with antibiotics. The following day her symptoms worsen and went back in, she was admitted for further testing and was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.
Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, also known as SJS, is a rare but serious problem. Most often, it's a severe reaction to a medicine you've taken. It causes your skin to blister and peel off, basically it feels like your skin is burning from the inside out. It affects your mucus membranes too. Blisters also form inside your body, making it hard to eat, swallow or even pee.
In severe cases, which Karin unfortunately is experiencing it has lead to extensive tissue damage and scarring that results in visual impairment and, rarely, blindness. Karin is currently recovery from a delicate procedure for her eyes and we are hoping for a recovery.
The Del Angel family is going through tough times right now and their world has been completly turned upside down. Karin will be hospitalized and in recovery for months, Jose (Karin's husband and my brother) has been missing work to be at her side as much as possible. Jose is also now left to tend to 3 beautiful girls.
