Karen Dean Byrne Medical Fund

Donation protected
As many of you know, Karen Dean Byrne is living with and in the same breath dying from metastasized breast cancer and was admitted to the hospital yesterday. What you don't know is the rest of the story.

I  just saw Karen 2 weeks ago. She looked great yet Jill's post about metastasized breast cancer struck me deeply. While another dear mom I know had detected her cancer early and attacked it with chemo and radiation and a double mastectomy, Karen had not been lucky. There was no chemo and hair loss. No mastectomy and reconstruction. Instead, there is only endless doctors appointments and discussion of "growth" of lesions and attempts to keep the cancer from spreading and thus prolonging her life.

When Karen was diagnosed with metastasized breast cancer 18 months ago, it was a terminal diagnosis. It was no longer a matter of IF she would die, it became a fight to keep her alive for as long as possible. With a terminal diagnosis, she could have medically retired. Trouble is, Karen is a numbers lady and she knew medically retiring would mean a pay cut and that her family could not afford to pay their bills. So, Karen has continued to work. Her job has been amazing at accommodating long trips to Annapolis for doctors appointments and other yuckiness that comes with a terminal cancer diagnosis. But Karen still has to work because she still has to pay bills.

Jill and I began a conversation about 2 weeks ago fleshing out a go fund me page to help off set some of the costs of Karen's mounting medical expenses as well as hopefully raise enough that she could finally medically retire. Please consider prayerfully donating to this fund. Every single dollar will literally buy Karen more time at home with her children. Metastasized breast cancer patients are usually have 33 months from diagnosis until death. Karen is 18 months in....

Pray for Karen and her family. As I write this, she is at St. Mary's Hospital and they are valiantly trying to manage her pain. She is in a lot of pain. Pray for her family. Pray for her doctors. Pray for a miracle. And hug your loved ones.

Consider for reference her bills.

$2500 one month of mortgage paid
$500 one month of groceries
$400 one weeks copays for Doctors
$250 one months electric bill
$250 one months gas bill
$100 one weeks gas expenses to and from doctors appointments.
