Kareem the Qatari Cat's Journey

Kareem was found in a local rescuer's swimming pool in December 2017. He was near death; not only from almost drowning, but also had a severe URI (or so we thought due to the extreme about of mucus coming out of his nose) and he was also suffering from calici virus. We believe he fell in the pool due to the extreme about of mucus in his eyes and nose that blinded him and made him unable to see or smell where he was going. Interestingly, he also had a unique ear tip, indicating that he had been neutered already.
He stayed at two trusted vet clinics in Qatar who ran a battery of tests and administered different rounds of antibiotics and antifungals to try to clear the mucus, but it just wouldn't go away. It was discovered he had a cleft palate, and on September 17, he was seen by a top surgeon in Doha to fix the cleft, which thankfully was only in his soft palate.
The surgeon started by flushing out the secretions from his nose, but discovered that Kareem has a congenital defect in which his nasal passages simply end above his palate. That is, his nose is not connected to his throat and he cannot breathe through his mouth. That is why secretions simply collect in his nasal passages. This effects how he eats and breathes, as well as know that we cannot breathe through our nose and eat or swallow at the same time!
We have now consulted with a top hospital, Petcode, in Ankara, Turkey. They will begin Kareem's consultation with a CAT scan, 3D imaging, and hopefully surgery. This will cost around 1500 euros or $1700 USD, and we will also need to to pay $70 USD to fly him from Doha to Ankara.
We will keep track of all donations and expenses. And thank you for your support! Let's get Kareem fixed up. It's a miracle he didn't die as a kitten trying to nurse, and he is a fighter. He is a very sweet and happy cat and deserves a normal life!
