Karah’s Medical Expenses

On December 16, I was admitted into the hospital for severe tachycardia, shortness of breath, fatigue, and dizziness . I had almost fatal blood counts. My doctors were surprised I was even conscious.  While in the hospital, I received several blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, and even had a bone marrow biopsy. After six days of constant testing, I was released just in time for Christmas. After enjoying Christmas  with my family, I went to Texas Oncology the next day for a counts test. Unfortunately, my counts were continuing to drop. I was transfused with blood and platelets the same day. This has been my life for the past month. Every Friday, I receive a transfusion of some kind. My hematologist explained that I wasn't getting any better. He just couldn't put a name on what was wrong with me. In the mean time, I had to live my life in a bubble. I wear a mask in public, use hospital grade hand sanitizer after everything I touch, I can't go to work, I have a hard time walking around, and I get short of breath after walking a short distance. Luckily, my doctor let me go back to school to finish my spring semester. As a junior in a college with a lot of stairs and hills, I have a hard time getting around. But I push myself. Push myself because this is the closest I feel to being normal. Recently, I got the opportunity to go to MD Anderson Leukemia Center in Houston. I spoke to a specialist in blood disorders, and he told me that I have Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic Anemia is a rare blood disease that means my bone marrow is failing and is unable to produce blood cells. Thankfully there is a cure. I will start immunosuppressive therapy as soon as possible. This will take at least a minimum of six months. Hopefully during this time,  my counts will gradually continue to rise. This is my prayer. Unfortunately, my insurance is not covered at MD Anderson nor was it available to me while I was in the hospital. Hopefully with this GoFundMe account, I can raise enough money to help pay for medical bills, tests, and lost wages. This is a scary time in my life, but I trust that God will ALWAYS protect me because his promises never fail. I know that somehow someway He will always provide for me. Thank you!
