Kapunda's Cancer Battlers

When Vine Inn Barossa CEO, Chris Linden, heard Bianca and Lee's story, he knew he wanted to help this family, who was always looking after everyone else.

The Wylie Family Story
Kapunda locals, Bianca and Lee Wylie, who own Coyote's Racing & Repairs, were hit with a double blow when a doctors visit found that Lee not only had severe kidney problems but was also diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. So while this family needed to spend the next 8 months driving over an hour for treatments and blood tests several times a week, they were also trying to run their business and look after their family.

However, it has now been found that the last 6 months of treatment has not worked, complicated by Lee's leaking kidneys, and now they are needing a stage 2 treatment.

Looking After Everyone Else Except Themselves
What makes this story different, is instead of taking the time to look after their own family, the Wylie family has spent this time raising money for other cancer patients and will be doing a Shave for a Cure.

This includes Bianca and her family fundraising for another local family, (who understandably wishes to remain anonymous to protect children's privacy).

This family, when the mum was 39wks pregnant with their third child received the devastating diagnosis that their 7-year-old son had leukaemia. 2 days later, they welcomed a healthy baby boy and were able to come home from the hospital for one night all together before intensive chemotherapy began. An extreme rollercoaster of emotions! Their son was on intensive treatment for 8 months and recently began maintenance treatment, which was due to commence on his 8th birthday and will continue for the next 2.5 years.

The family says "We are extremely grateful for all of the support we have received and have been truly humbled by the generosity of our community and are especially thankful to Bianca and Lee who have reached out to us during an extremely tough time for them also."

Feeling The Financial Strain
However, when talking to Bianca, she reluctantly admits that "The strain has not only been emotional, physical and mental but also financial," said Bianca. "The medical bills add up, as does the cost of not having the time or energy to spend as much time in our business as we wish we could"

This gofundme campaign will be donating money to the Wylie family, who have also generously offered to pass half the money raised, to the other family mentioned.

Shaving Their Heads
There will also be 2 events on 16th March, from 5-6pm., where both Chris Linden and Bianca will shave their heads to raise money for the families and the Leukaemia Foundation. Bianca is shaving all her beautiful hair off and Chris will be shaving his beard and sporting a #2 haircut. There will also be happy hour drinks where funds raised will be given to the families.
