Save the Beta Omega House

I am writing on behalf of several Beta Omega Alums whose years of initiation span several decades – from the 1960’s into the 2010’s. That’s 60 years! The subject matter is “The House” - whether it was the spaghetti dinners, theme parties, pinochle/ping pong dart tournaments, studying or just plain R&R, I believe we can all agree that “The House” was the focal point of our years spent at Temple University School of Pharmacy. For today’s collegiates it still is!

The house needs significant repair due accumulation of damages over the years: damages due to wear and tear; damages due to old plumbing that led to severe water damage causing a wall to collapse; and damages from a recent arson fire. Thankfully, the house was empty, and no one was injured. The city officially deemed the house unsafe during the early months of 2021, and the brothers had to move out.

Due to the urgent need for repairs, we had to act fast and execute contracts to start the project. Had we not started right away, we stood to lose our house permanently, and the city would order the place to be condemned.

As I write to you today, the renovation project started in May of 2022, make- safe-permits have been issued, and the repairs are underway.

We need $80,000 to finish the project despite the money raised internally. This includes unanticipated expenses such as legal fees, fines, security guard expenses, insurance expenses, and the cost of inflation that is driving many prices up.

We are counting on the support of our network of alumni to raise the money needed to cover the deficit over the next four months. Unlike previous attempts to raise money to “finally fix the house once and for all,” the repair work is happening and has begun this time. Contracts have been executed for a complete-gut-job of the houses (new plumbing, new electric, new flooring, new sheetrock, HVAC system, new roof, etc.). Our goal is to keep everyone informed about the progress as we share pictures of the work done on our Facebook group, Instagram account, and the school website.
