Kane’s Van
Donation protected
In 2009 on Easter, my brother was in a dirt bike accident that left him a complete quadraplegic from the shoulders down. The only income he has to live on is the disability that he gets. That check is barely enough to pay the monthly bills. As you can imagine that doesn’t leave hardly anything left especially for a vehicle payment. Kane has gone thru three vans since he has been hurt and that is mostly because they were older vans when he got them With a lot of miles on them. There are a couple of reasons why it’s imperative he has transportation. The first is because living in Iowa everything is rural and the specialists are in different towns from where he lives. He has doctor appointments that he has to get to. The other reason is because his wheelchair is set up especially to fit his body. He has to be able to do pressure releases and have padding in certain areas to avoid pressure ulcers. When he rides in a regular vehicle he has to be lifted in and out of that vehicle and that is to hard on his body because he no longer has muscle mass. He cannot take his electric wheel chair with him then because it weighs 600 pounds and can’t be folded down to fit in the trunk. That leaves him with a manual wheelchair that isn’t designed for his body and one that someone has to push which takes away the only independence he has. Since the past three vans he has had were from the 1990’s they have all come with there own share of problems that were causing other problems until they couldn’t be fixed any longer. I am hoping to be able to raise enough money to be able to purchase a handicap accessible van. That is used but newer atleast one in the early 2000’s. Any donation that you could make would be a very kind gesture and would be greatly appreciated more then you would ever know. It’s hard having to have to ask for help and that is exactly why I have decided to ask on my brothers behalf. This isn’t a luxury for him it’s a necessity. The more time he goes without having a vehicle he can have access to means doctors appointments he has to miss because he has to have someone available to lift him in and out of the car at every place he has to go and that is also hard to work around. Thank you for any contribution you can make.
