Kamituga Women and Children's Hospital, DR Congo

Donation protected
Joy Marie, has created a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds to support the construction of a Women and Children's Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Project Name is: Centre Mère-Enfant de Kamituga/ Kamituga Mother-Child Center

The project is to build a Mother and Child Hospital (100 beds capacity) in Kamituga-Mwenga

The population of Kamituga-Mwenga is 424,000 inhabitants (estimation) apart from those living nearby.

The hospital is currently under construction in Kamituga, village LULIBA, South-Kivu/DR Congo

Joy Marie  worked as a midwife with Doctor’s Without Borders Nov 2020 - April 2021, she had the honour of meeting Dr. Hilaire, a pediatrician from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr. Hilaire and his brother Dr. Darock have been working together to build a Women and Children’s Hospital in their home village Mwenga-Kamituga.  They started building the hospital in Jan 2020 and with the help of your generous donations, they estimate completion June 2022.

Due to extreme poverty in the region, a large number of women die during pregnancy or birth due to largely preventable causes like eclampsia (severely high blood pressure) and post partum hemorrhage.  Children under the age of five years old die due to easily preventable or curable diseases.

With this hospital, the brothers will work to reduce this mortality by providing adequate care for the women and children of this community. They will also empower local medical staff by strengthening their capacity through continuous training.

To put the health of women and children living in DR Congo into perspective, I have put below the statistics of children/ infant and maternal mortality (death) compared to the children/ infant and maternal mortality of Canada.
Statistic from Unicef: https://data.unicef.org/country/cod/

DR Congo
Under 5 mortality rate 85/ 1000 births = 8.5%
Neonatal mortality rate 66/1000 births = 6.6%
Maternal mortality rate 473/100000 births = 0.5%

Canada
Under 5 mortality rate 4.9/ 1000 births = 0.5%
Neonatal mortality rate 4/1000 births = 0.4%
Maternal mortality rate 10/100000 births = 0.01%

Please donate to help these brother's support the health of Women and Children living in their hometown community, Kamituga-Mwenga DR Congo. If you are unable to donate, we would appreciate if you could share the link with your family and friends and on social media!

Blessings
