On October 31, 2017 as many of us were dressing up in costumes or handing out candy to little ghosts and goblins, my sister, Kalyn was experiencing a life changing tragedy. She woke up with a fast moving infection which started in her thumb on her dominant hand and rapidly moved through her hand and up her arm. After the initial surgery in Manitowoc she was transported to Milwaukee by ambulance and went through another surgery that night to try to contain the infection. She was hospitalized for about 2 weeks, going through two more surgeries, multiple treatments and several complications.  She had an open wound for over a week! She had over 300 stitches in her hand and all the way up her arm. She has had several weeks of wound care and hyperbaric treatments requiring more trips to Milwaukee.  Her stitches are now removed. She will now start Occupational Therapy to rehabilitate her thumb, hand and arm.

Kalyn did receive good news! After about 3 weeks of not knowing the status of her thumb and index finger, her Doctor is now confident that her thumb and finger will be saved! The healing from this tragedy is progressing in a positive light!  We are all grateful for the Medical Staff in Manitowoc for recognizing the severity of the flesh eating infection and finding a specialist with such urgency.  Also, a huge appreciation for the Medical Staff at St. Lukes Aurora Medical Center in Milwaukee for saving her fingers, arm and quite honestly, her life.  Without their swift and skilled actions, I may have lost my only sister.

The healing from this debilitating wound is a long and slow process which has greatly affected her career and ability to earn.

Many of you may know, Kalyn’s life long career is a stylist.  She is independent and self employed, managing her salon for 25+ years.  So you can imagine how devastating this has been for her, physically, emotionally and financially. She is so strong and does not want to ask for help.  That is why I am asking.  I know there are so many people out there supporting, sending positive thoughts and praying for her.  I know people want to know what they can do to help.  Please consider a donation.  Even the smallest amount will be helpful. She has suffered a great loss of income and her medical bills are starting to come in.  The numbers are devastating. Let's all come together with financial support, so she can focus on regaining use of her hand, fingers and arm.  Thank you in advance for your generousity.
