I currently live in St Petersburg, Florida, but I am originally from south Louisiana. That red dot is my sister Kali's house in Moss Bluff (Lake Charles), LA. The Calcasieu River wraps around her neighborhood and Cypress Lake is in her backyard. Hurricane Harvey showed her no mercy. She was able to get out before the floodwaters rose, but the waters have yet to recede and by the time she is able to get back to her house, it is expected that all will be lost. Adding insult to injury, she lost her car last year in the Baton Rouge floods.
They have renters insurance, but it does not cover natural disasters. At this time, even though Calcasieu Parish has been declared a disaster area, their neighborhood has not been added to the FEMA assistance list.
Kali moved to Lake Charles to help her friend open a business. The business is also flooded and shut down. She has lost her home, her job, her vehicle, and all of her belongings. At age 45 (she's younger than me), she will be starting from scratch. I am hoping to raise enough to help her replace at least some of what she's lost, cover deposits and rent for a couple of months, and cover her income until she can begin another job.
I have set Kali as the beneficiary so that all donations can be withdrawn by her.
If you feel led, please help.
