Kalowna's TPLO surgery
Donation protected
Kalowna the Doberman is the light of her mom’s life. They have been inseparable for almost 3 years, since Kalowna was a tiny puppy. She had just completed treatment for Parvovirus at the SF SPCA. Kalowna almost didn’t make it, but she miraculously pulled through, and is now exactly where she needs to be.

Kalowna’s favorite thing to do is run around the dog park with her friends. She keeps her mom healthy by insisting that they go on long walks to the park every day. Kalowna loves everyone she meets and the feeling is always mutual. She also has a kitty brother named Dior and they are best friends.

About 2 months ago, Kalowna tore both of her ACLs. Due to the severity of the tears, the vet is recommending double TPLO surgery. She also has chronic arthritis and the vet is recommending a second surgery to take important preventative measures to help her live a pain-free life, since she is still so young (hardly 3 years old!). I am still waiting for the vet to craft an estimate and provide more information on this second procedure. Not being able to run and play is severely impacting Kalowna’s quality of life; and dealing with a lifetime of arthritis would be heartbreaking.
On top of all of this, Kalowna’s human, Tumeka, is dealing with serious health issues of her own. Tumeka has Stage 3 kidney cancer and recently started receiving chemotherapy. She also was just diagnosed with gallbladder stones and will have her gallbladder removed. Every time I have tried asking Tumeka how she is doing, she insists she is fine and shifts the focus to Kalowna’s medical care. She is one of the strongest people I have ever met and what she needs right now is the peace of mind from knowing her dog is healthy.
Here are the estimates for Kalowna’s surgeries:
TPLO surgery: 6,490.00
Medications to go home: 200.00
25% discount from MPH: -1,672.50
Contribution from SF Aid for Animals: -1,000.00
Total left to fundraise: 4,017.50
This does not include the pending estimate for the second surgery for her chronic arthritis.

Mission Pet Hospital is graciously discounting the surgery by 25%. SF Aid For Animals is generously contributing $1000. Tumeka has saved up $2000. Ideally I would like to raise enough money to allow Tumeka to spend her saved funds on taking care of her own health and well-being.
We have not scheduled the surgeries yet as we need to secure funding first. I will keep everyone posted as best as possible. Kalowna will be treated at Mission Pet Hospital in San Francisco.
About me:
My name is Ali Sutch and I met Tumeka three ago through my work with PAWS (https://www.shanti.org/programs-services/pets-are-wonderful-support/). I am a professional dog trainer, serving clients through my own training business (www.uptosnuff.net) and through Full Belly Bus (www.fullbellybus.org). I have permission from Tumeka to create this fundraiser. She requested that the GoFundMe be linked to my bank account instead of hers and that I write her a check with the final amount. If anyone has questions about this process or concerns about where the money is going, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me at [email redacted] [dot] com.
Thank you all so much. When I told Tumeka about all the people who wanted to support her, she cried. "I thought I was alone". I am so grateful to all of you who can help show Tumeka she is so, so far from being alone. <3
