Kaityn's Medical Fund

If you know the Burk family, then you know how kind, generous, and fun they are! This GoFundMe account has been set up to help them pay for medical bills for their youngest daughter, Kaityn. 

Over the last 7 months, Kaityn has been struggling to swallow anything that is put in her mouth. Kandace noticed a change in Kaityn's feeding habits around 4 months old. They continued to get worse until Kaityn ended up hospitalized at 6 months old. She went from the 90th percentile in weight to the 50th and was severely dehydrated because she refused to eat or nurse at all at this point. Kaityn went through countless tests, including a brain CT, upper GI testing, a swallow study, PH probe, and blood work. Nothing was found abnormal in any of these tests. Doctors have not officially diagnosed Kaityn with anything specific yet, but are calling it an oral aversion and sensory issues. Doctors have said it could be something neurological or simply behavioral. 

Kaityn had to undergo surgery to have  a GJet AMT feeding tube inserted through her stomach to her intestines. She gets overnight feeds through it. She struggles to drink water during the day and still will not swallow any food put in her mouth, although she sure likes to play with food given to her. 

Since September, Kaityn has been going to speech and occupational therapy once a week. She just started with ECI speech and occupational therapy. Those specialists come to Dalhart 2 times a month. 

Kaityn is now 11 months old and extremely happy despite all she has endured. However, the Burks are now faced with daunting medical bills from 2017 and will be accumulating more debt during 2018.
