Kaitlyn Pence- Degenerative Disc Disease Fund

Donation protected
Hello all,

My name is Kaitlyn Pence. I'm 29 years old, a lifelong Colorado Springs resident and currently work in the grocery industry. My husband, Brian, and I have two small fur babies of the canine persuasion (Jack and Charlotte). My small family enjoy watching movies, reading, crafting, escape rooms, and exploring the amazing world around us!

Starting in November of 2019, I was experiencing sharp constant pain in my lower back. It effected everything- work and home life. Some days the pain was so intense I could hardly even get out of bed.  After going to a pain management specialist, I was diagnosed with DDD or Degenerative Disc Disease in my lower back.

From November 2019 to April 2020, I went through several types of treatments, including pain meds, 12 weeks of physical therapy, dry needling, epidurals, and at home exercises. I found some pain relief with these, but it was more of a mask than a fix.

In April 2020, after all of these treatments, it was recommended to me to leave my job that was quite physical for something less physical. I did so and luckily was able to during the coronavirus pandemic. However even with less physical activity and restrictions of activity at the workplace, my pain was still not subsiding, despite the small progress I made with the other treatments. I still can't even do basic household chores like sweeping or vacuuming.

After looking at what other things I could try, or even if there was anything else, I found a local pain management clinic that offered different treatments from what I've received and made an appointment. This week I was seen, and x-rays were taken.

With the results, I've discovered that my DDD has progressed to Stage 2 and also discovered that I have a severely degenerated disc in my neck as well as my lower back. Due to this, time is of the essence. While there's no way to rebuild the collagen I've lost, these treatments can help me save what's left of my discs. When the discs fully degenerate, spinal fusion surgery is the only option.

The recommended treatments are expensive, and I am trying to raise funds to offset costs. Anything you could donate, even 5 dollars will help immensely.

My treatment starts September 28th, 2020, and anything will help!

God Bless!
Kaitlyn
