My name is Kaitlin Kroese and I have fallen in love with Korah, Ethiopia. I first experienced Korah in January 2017. I went on a short trip with " Out of the Ashes". Korah, Ethiopia is a leper colony of over 130,000 people, located inside the city limits of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Korah is directly adjacent to the city trash dump. Due to the extreme poverty in Korah, many families are simply unable to provide for their children. Lacking options, parents send their children (some as young as 6 or 7 years old) away to “work” in the “Koshe” (trash dump). The children often have had minimal or no schooling. It is a devastating reality for most of the thousands of children living and eating in Korah’s trash dump. Without the support and aid of others there is little hope for a different life. Out of the Ashes is committed to making a difference and works to quite literally pull kids out of the ashes of the trash dump and send them where children belong… to school.
My first 10 days in Korah were the hardest, but greatest 10 days of my entire life. I saw suffering, but I also saw great hope among the people. I knew right from the moment I left Korah that God would soon call me back....and boy did he!! I am happy to announce that I will be spending my entire summer in Korah working alongside Out of the Ashes. The only thing that is currently holding me back is the finances for the trip. I need $4,000 to make this trip happen. This money would pay for my transportation, food, lodging, and translator. I know God is calling me to this mission and I am certain he will provide. I am asking for your financial and prayer support as I continue on God's journey for my life.
I have learned so much from these people who having nothing, yet are filled with so much joy and happiness. Out of the Ashes is making a visible difference among Korah and I am overwhelmed that I am able to be a part of it.
I am so excited to see what God is going to do this summer in Korah, Ethiopia.
Thank you!!
