Peru Medical Mission Trip

Hello! My name is Kaitlin Gerber and I would like to take a few minutes of your time to share an opportunity I have with you.
I'm currently working on my master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies in Lincoln, Nebraska. A group of about 10 classmates and I have organized a medical mission trip to Iquitos, Peru from June 10-25. We will be accompanied by other physician assistants, medical doctors, a team of surgeons, nurses, and a pastor. We plan to fly to Lima, travel to Iquitos, and from there we will board a boat and spend our days traveling to the small villages located along the Amazon River. Once we arrive in a village we will set up a small clinic and invite anyone who may have a medical problem to come to us for care. We won't have access to lab work or x-rays. Instead we will have our stethoscopes, some common medications and vaccinations, a few medical tools, and our God given talents to help those who would otherwise never be able to seek the common medical care we all take for granted.
If you know me well, you probably know I love medicine and I love traveling as well. However, Peru will be a whole new experience for me. Caring for the extremely poor, sleeping in the forest covered by mosquito nets to prevent malaria, and traveling down the snake and crocodile infested Amazon River will surely give me a entirely new view on life. I'm both excited and nervous to be part of this trip, and I'm hoping you might be able to help me with this once in a lifetime opportunity.
The cost of the trip is approximately $3,000. I realize economic times are extremely difficult, and we're all trying to save where we can. If you're able, I would appreciate any donation you're willing to give, and if you're unable to give, I just ask you keep my group in your prayers during this trip.
Any time a donation of monetary value is made, it is important for donors to know where the money will be going. All monetary donations will cover the airline expense to and from Peru, hospitality charges for a place to sleep and eat, and also medical equipment for the Peruvian patients. I have posted several pictures from the trip taken last year by 2nd year UCPA students to help you visualize where I will be traveling to in June. God Bless!
