Kaila's First Tour

ABOUT ME:
My name is Kaila Love.
I'm an emcee, singer, entertainer, aspiring dancer, and hip hop educator.

I've been rapping for 11 years now, and working consistently on my craft in that time. I went from learning how to hold a mic and project my voice to incorprating performance gimmicks and dance choreography in my live shows; Now, I'm ready to take my music and message to the next level by going on my very first tour.

Music has always been a way for me to heal and express myself, especially during moments of turmoil. Neither one of my parents graduated from high school, but I overcame the odds set against me by becoming the first in my family to graduate from college when I walked the stage and performed at my commencement from UC Berkeley in 2014. Today, I combine my skills in music, graphic design, curriculum development, and leadership to help the next generation of scholars like me. My role as an educator and a music artist are inextricably intertwined and constantly informing one another in my work.

MY MUSIC:
I released my debut project, "Beautiful & Disgusting," The EP on January 7, 2017. It consists of 7 of my best tracks - touching on difficult subjects from depression and sexual assault to upbeat jams about living life to the fullest (To the Max!) and enjoying delcious food on dates. Duality is central to my work; I seek to expose the human condition with a focus on womanhood and do this by embracing vulnerability and raw emotion in my work.

ABOUT THE TOUR:
The Slap Frost Summer Vacation tour kicks off July 11, 2017 and is being headlined by Gavlyn, a dope female emcee based out of L.A. I had the opportunity to meet her when I was organizing with Students for Hip Hop at Cal so I'm really excited to be work with her agian. Also on the lineup is DJ True Justice, Vocab Slick, and Z-Man.

WHY I NEED THE FUNDS:
-$1,500: Base fee for the tour. Includes transporation and travel accomodations for show nights for me and my project manager.
-$500: Funds to pay my manager who will be accompanying me on this tour and assisting with content creation, merchandise handling, etc.
-$500: Upfront funds to launch merchandise. As a touring artist, merch is crucial for turning a profit on the road.
-$1,000: Buffer funds. Accomodations are only for show nights, so this fund would be dedicated to emergency funds that may come up on the road such as needing to book a hotel. This will also be for all expenses on the road (like food!) and to help fulfill financial obligations while I am away (like bills!)

TIMELINE:
I am launching this campaign June 11, 2017 - exactly one month before I go on tour which kicks off July 11, 2017. I must reach my fundraising goal of $3,500 by that time.
