Kai's Recovery

This is our baby kitten, Kai. Right now, we are making this gofundme page, because she is at an emergency veterinary hospital in critical care, and all we can do is think about her. 

On Monday evening, 5/6/19, we noticed extremely labored and rapid breathing, as if she had just finished running around the house, except she wasn't running around the house. She wouldn't play. She could barely walk.

Doctors are still running tests to pinpoint exactly what is wrong, but the initial prognosis pointed towards Chylothorax, Pyothorax, or FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), all of which can be fatal, especially FIP, for which there is currently no cure. 

Most up to date testing increases the likelihood that Kai is fighting against Pyothorax, which is a life-threatening infection of the thorax. The pleural cavity that surrounds the lungs accumulates pus  and restricts the lungs, resulting in difficulty breathing. The onset is aggressive and devastating, and we are thankful to have noticed it when we did, because a proportion of cats die in the early stages of this disease.  Unfortunately, we still do not know for sure what exactly is wrong.

To have the immediate issue treated, Kai had a significant portion of fluid drained from her chest immediately (138 mL), and had to undergo a surgery on 5/7 that implanted two temporary tubes into her chest cavity to help drain the fluids restricting her lungs. Additionally, she will be on an antibiotic regiment to fight against the bacterial infection that could be causing this. She will have to be hospitalized for several days, and we hope to know what the root cause of this issue is as soon as possible. 

Only a few days ago, Kai was running around the house, cuddling in our laps, playing with her toys, and bringing everyone around her happiness. We have only been with Kai for a few months, but now, we can't imagine life without her. All of the funds raised will go directly to Kai's hospital bills and helping her recover, and we would not be able to thank you enough for helping us save her.
