Hello to all my friends, family, teachers and strangers that find themselves reading this!!!
My name is Kadence Whitworth, I am an 16 year old, deaf, sophomore student, with a Bilateral hearing loss at Polson High School in Montana, with the hopes of fulling my dreams of visiting Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. ( the only university in the world that is designed for all deaf and hard of hearing students)
I applied to the Gallaudet University Summer Program hoping that I would be one of the 24 students nationwide to attend summer program and just heard back that I was CHOSEN to attend this program.
Attending this program will give me the opportunity to meet other deaf and hard of hearing peers that also live in rural areas where there is limited access to deaf cultures and peers. It will give me insight on how to plan my future as a college student and how to advocate for my rights in the education and career world and to be confident in making those future choices for myself.
Gallaudet University (the only university in the world that has led education advances for all deaf and hard of hearing students worldwide) is offering a summer program, “Discover Your Future” for deaf and hard of hearing high school students in June 2018. This program is designed for college-bound deaf and hard of hearing students that seek a college education. They provides classes on self-exploration, exploring different careers and education opportunities, deaf rights and self-advocacy. Amongst other programs, students will meet with successful deaf professionals and get guidance on how to navigate the hearing world as a deaf person, within their education, careers and their deaf rights as well.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to be able attend and I am so thankful that I have this opportunity, so I am asking for financial donations to help to cover accommodations, transportation and expenses to and from Washington, D.C. that are not covered by the program. Please help me to achieve my dreams of getting to Gallaudet. Thank you in advance for you donations and I will follow up with you all after my program ends..
