Dear Donors,
We are in the process of fundraising 2,000 GBP to provide free meals for the children of the Ilikimou Elementary School for the months of March, April, May and June 2018. Ilikimou is a small village located at the Border of Nigeria and Benin. Over the past few months, we have begun a canteen which allows 500 children to have a free meal at school every day. Our project is structured as follows:
- Raising money to purchase and store food ingredients with our organization, parents and teachers collaborating and monitoring execution
- Hiring 12 mothers from the community as cooks, who we each pay $1 a day to cook and serve the food
- Empowering teachers, and the 2 school principals to organize a lunch break every day, and ensure that each child is fed properly and has time to consume their food before resuming afternoon school sessions.
We are in the process of formalizing KADARA as a proper NGO. Our aim is to replicate this model across Africa as we gain traction, and fine tune the model in the months to come. So far and since September 2017, private donations have sustained the program. A French Foundation has agreed to contribute considerable funding for the next 3 school years, starting in September 2018. We are turning to you, kind donors, to allow us to feed our children until the end of the school year, this June.
Our organization, KADARA, which means Destiny in Yoruba, attempts to bring together pillars of values we, founders, hold dear.
- Nourishing our children so that their minds are open to absorb education in ways that enable them to be soldiers of the African resurgence
- Freeing parents from the cruel predicament of not sending their children to school because they cannot finance their food needs on top of school fees
- Empowering women in the community to care for their children, while earning incremental income
- Fostering community based collaboration between parents, professors and our representatives so our people work together to take their destinies in their own hands
We also welcome ideas, and your involvement as we take this organization to new heights and create a sustainable model which brings together education, nutrition and female empowerment.
