Kabeja/Elina Family Emergency

Donation protected
Elina and Kabeja are two wonderful loving parents of seven children in Albuquerque, NM. Unfortunately, they were involved in a terrible car accident on August 11th, 2019 that have left them paralyzed and unable to care for their children. As a result, they are both in the ICU recovering from a variety of very serious injuries. Both suffered spinal injuries and may not be able to walk again. Four of their kids were in the vehicle with them including their one-year-old who will make a full recovery. Their oldest daughter's leg was broken and the others are still very traumatized.

As a result of this accident, the oldest kids have have to take on the role of parents and are taking care of their younger siblings (ages 1, 8 and 11). They have no income and need temporary support to cover rent, food and other expenses related to the accident. They are receiving support from multiple friends, community members and organizations who will continue to connect them with local resources but there are still many expenses that cannot be covered. Please consider donating any amount. Thank you for your support! Below are more details about Elina and Kabeja if you would like to learn more.

-----------------

Elina suffered fractures to her spine in multiple areas around her neck. The fractures caused severe damage to her spinal cord. Currently, she is paralyzed from the neck down but can see, hear and talk.

Kabeja suffered multiple fractures to his spine with some damage to his spinal cord. He also had extensive bleeding in his head which required a part of his skull to be removed to relieve pressure to avoid more brain damage. It is unclear how much brain damage he has suffered and is currently paralyzed from the waist down.

Elina and Kabeja are originally from the DRC and came to Albuquerque in 2015 as refugees as a result of genocide and war in their home country that forced them to flee with their children. They are incredibly kind, loving and resilient people and we are hoping and praying that they recover soon.

Thank you for taking the time to read and please consider donating. All funds will go directly to the family.
