I was laid off from a low level job in pharmaceuticals for the third time this century in 2009. I was determined I wouldn't go back.
In 2010 I volunteered at the John James Audubon Center. Among other things I helped teach day campers about nature.
I soon realized this is what I am meant to do and have been doing it ever since. I now work for three organizations. But the work of an Environmental Educator is seasonal and part-time and without benefits. Interim jobs have been hard to find.
I am in school for my BS which should qualify me for better, full-time, permanent jobs when I graduate.
I have recieved high praise from both teachers and employers. In 2012 I created a water monitoring group at an area nature center that is still going although I'm no longer there.
In September 2014 there was a fire in my apartment building. Since then things have been very hard and I have had to take money from my elderly parents who do not have much as it is, as well as from freinds.
These days it's all I can do to cover the rent! The old care needs work and utilities in this new place are pretty high. At $50 a month internet is expensive, too, but it is essential.
Believe me when I tell you I don't waste money. I don't have cable or a digital television.
I look forward to spending the rest of my life educating children and adults on the importance of clean water and healthy natural ecosystems.
It took me about 45 years to discover what I want to do with my life.
I feel awkward asking proplr for money, but things have gotten that bad. These are tough times for many of us and I am very grateful for every penny that you can spare.
