K9 Opal - Search & Rescue dog

Opal is a 4-year old yellow lab, volunteering with Mountain Wave Search & Rescue and Lincoln County Search & Rescue. She is certified in area scent with Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States (SARDUS). Yesterday while hiking with her people, Opal fell 20-30 feet and sustained multiple fractures in her wrist and lacerations from hitting rocks. Horrible for any dog to endure, devastating for a high drive Search and Rescue dog.
In addition to the hospitalization and stabilization that Opal has already endured, she will require surgery to repair the damage done to her leg, most likely in the form of a rod and pins. The surgery alone is expected to run a minimum of $5,000. She will also need follow up appointments, prescriptions and rehab. Recovery time is expected to take 6 - 12 months.
Opal and her owner/handler Barb have been involved in Search and Rescue since 2014. Barb has always been a huge supporter of her teammates. She is always there to lift someone up, assist with training or run as support for another K9 team. Please help us get Opal on the road to recovery. She was truly made for this job and it shows in her energy and happiness out in the field. She deserves a chance to heal and make a difference in the lives of others.
