Microfinance In Brazil

Hello Everyone!

I was recently granted a volunteer opportunity with a micro-finance institution in Salvador De Bahia, Brazil. I will be working there from September until December 0f this year. The opportunity is facilitated by ProWorld Volunteers, a 10-year-old worldwide philanthropy organization.
As we all know, nothing is free in this world - even helping others - so I will need some financial support for this endeavor.

About me
I completed my Bachelors of Arts in Economics at Morehouse College in May, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude Honors. I was blessed to have been a leader on campus and in the Atlanta Metropolitan community for the entirety of my college experience.
I founded the Next Generation Scholarship Program, served as an ambassador for the Scholarship Academy and worked as a leader in the Morehouse Business Association. I received the James Hefner Award - the highest honor awarded to students in the Division of Business and Economics. I also earned the B.R. Brazil Award for embodying Morehouse's ideals and the Brother of the Year Award for the Georgia District of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

Why am I going?

Dr. Robert Michael Franklin, 10th President of Morehouse College, challenged all of his students to become Renaissance Men with a Global Conscious. I have internalized that message and incorporated it into my everyday life. All of my travels, while lending new perspectives and outlooks to my psyche, have been as brief as they have been powerful. Going to Salvador for this extended, three-month period, will provide an opportunity to truly immerse myself in the culture while helping the community and working in my field of study.
