Ready. Set. Go Pink - Tasha's Fund!

During the 2014 holiday season our friend Tasha noticed a lump in her breast.  She had recently moved to another state with her husband and three small children and with Christmas coming up it was difficult to find the time to get to the doctor.  She was only 34 years old at the time and she had no family history of breast cancer so she assumed the lump was just benign tissue.  Once the New Year had rolled around and things in her household began to settle down she noticed that the lump was not only still there but was growing.  She couldn’t stop feeling that something just wasn’t right with her body so she decided she needed to get a mammogram to rule out any serious medical concerns.  The results of the mammogram were worrisome enough for her doctor that he urged her to go in for a breast tissue biopsy. Unfortunately, the results of the biopsy were even worse.  Tasha has now been diagnosed with an aggressive, rare and horrible type of breast cancer that feeds off estrogen.

Now that the shock of the diagnosis has settled a bit, Tasha has begun taking the next steps in fighting this awful disease that so many women face every year.  She recently had a medical port surgically implanted and can now begin aggressive chemotherapy in an attempt to shrink the tumor.  If all goes well the tumor will soon be small enough that it can be surgically removed from her body.  In the first bit of good news since this whole story began she recently had an MRI that has shown the cancer has not spread further than her breast tissue but she still has a very long and very difficult battle ahead.

In many ways our friend Tasha is not your average person.  We’ve always known she is an amazing wife to Derek and a wonderful mother to Brevon (5), Blakelynn (3) and Brekyn (6 mos.).  We’ve also always known that she is an awesome daughter to some pretty great parents and a fantastic older sister to her sister and two step-brothers.  What we didn’t know and what we’ve learned just within the last couple of weeks is how incredibly strong, brave and determined she is.  Everyone who knows Tasha knows that she can and will fight this cancer with everything she has and that SHE WILL WIN!

This is going to be a long journey for Tasha and everyone in her family.  Derek will be responsible for taking care of the children and shuffling Tasha back and forth to her doctor appointments while working full time.  Her parents and siblings will help out in every way possible but she will be facing many hardships in the coming months and years.  Although Tasha is covered under her husband’s insurance plan, we all know that paying for your spouse and children’s additional insurance is not cheap and that there are many, many things that insurance doesn’t cover.

That is why we set up this page and where all you lovely people who care about Tasha come into the picture. Please donate anything you can.  The more the better but even if you can only afford $5 right now those $5 bills add up and can go a long way towards helping ease some of Tasha’s incredibly heavy burden.  Please also send your prayers, good thoughts, amazing vibes and everything else that’s good her way.  Keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers and I believe we’ll be able to send a miracle all the way from Colorado to Texas! Thanks everyone!!!
