Our Friend Jenny has Cancer. We invite you to join in this rally to raise money to not only support Jenny through a lengthy rehabilitation, but to help her use some much needed funds to raise awareness of Australia’s second most common cancer.
Did you know that in 2017, it is estimated that 16,682 new cases of colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer in Australia (behind Lung Cancer) and it is estimated that 9,127 males and 7,555 females were diagnosed in 2017. Jenny is one of those many people who are battling this illness, and we would love your help. The toughest thing about Jenny’s illness is that we can’t see what is making her so sick. Since her diagnosis, Jenny’s treatment has been a gruelling regime of chemotherapy, radiation and a hellishly risky operation on Tuesday 22nd August to remove the tumour. Her life has been changed forever, but the most wonderful thing is that her attitude and zest for life has only strengthened. She is an inspiration to everyone around her. So, to kick off this rally, I’ve been trying to tell the story of my friendship with Jenny, but do I start when the two of us met? For Jenny and I, that was towards the end of last year when we walked the Esplanade every weekday morning, talking about all kinds of stuff. Or, do I start with the beginning of Jen’s life 43 short years ago? Or do I start with how her bubbly personality is like sunshine? Or do I start this story with the day everything changed? Which was in December on our morning walk, when Jenny shared with me some symptoms she was having. Because it was Christmas time, she played it all down. But in the new year, after seeing numerous doctors, Jenny was given a devastating diagnosis of Stage III-Colorectal Cancer. For the enviably uninitiated, it is estimated that the risk of an individual being diagnosed with colorectal cancer by their 85th birthday will be 1 in 13. ONE IN THIRTEEN!!! So, our friend Jenny has Cancer. Her life has been changed forever. Can you help?
