Hello, everyone, and thank you for taking the time to come and consider my request.
You probably already know me, but for those who may not: My name is Larisa. I'm twenty-eight, a single mom to a feisty three year old - and I'm dying of End Stage Renal Failure. Both of my kidneys are 99% non-functioning, and will never heal. I am currently on a transplant list, and am speaking with potential donors. I am hopeful for my future, as well as that of my daughter's.
What I am raising money for is not my surgery. My insurance covers my surgery, as well as my donor's surgery costs.
However, my family - who consist simply myself, my retired mother, and retired grandmother - are footing the bill for the donor's travel expenses, antibiotics/medications, our own travel expenses, and everything else in between.
My surgery will be performed at Rush Univeristy Hospital in Chicago. I live in Cary, Illinois. It takes approximately half a tank of gas for a day of travelling, there and back. After my surgery, I will be hospitalized for 7-10 days. My family will be visiting during that time. Afterwards, I will be at the hospital approximately 12 times in the month for checkups, then 6 times in the second month, then perhaps 4 times in the third month. Gas alone will rack up to well over $1,000.
Then there is my donor. We would like to pay for their travel expenses. I do not know where they may be travelling from, whether it be the Chicago area or flying across the United States. But my family would like to cover this. After the surgery, the donor will need about a week of recovery, plus the cost of their antiobiotics and/or other medications. If they can't afford or don't have vacation or sick days from work, we would like to be able to help with this, as well. Very easily, this can come to $1,000.
My bare bones hope is for $2,000, although anything - anything at all - would be a help to us.
This would mean the world to us. To me, who struggles to function on a day to day basis. To my daughter, who deserves a mother who can physically keep up with her. To my mother, who shouldn't have to babysit an energetic three year old all day long. To my grandmother, who is simply beside herself with worry day in and out.
