friday, jan 9th 2015, on the fraser highway in langley bc, tyler was struck by a car going 70km, the driver being an 18 year old new driver, cooperated with police and showed genuine concern. he remains in the ICU at the Royal Columbian Hospital in critical condition in New West Minister. upon arriving to the hospital tyler had injuries to his legs, head, jaw, and lungs, along with cuts and bruising all over his body. theyve kept him heavily sedated so he is motionless. they think he can hear us but only when they lower his sedation does he respond by a hand squeeze or an eyebrow wiggle. he has gone through a surgery on his lower right leg, where they placed a rod in with some screws, and a few days later, reconstructive surgery on his jaw as he had the lower half detached and broken in multiple places, he has lost a great number of teeth and also needed a bit of plastic surgery on his chin. his jaw will now be screwed shut for 6-8 weeks. they have removed most of his tubes but have left his feeding tube in and they had to move his breathing tube from his mouth to his nose from the jaw surgery. because of all the damage to his esophagus and airway, it has become very swollen and concerning. in the accident tyler got a small hole in his lung that is leaking his oxygen into hus chest cavity that has swelled up his entire body twice his normal size, they have lowered his oxygen pressure and are hoping it will subside on its own. their next step is to do a tracheatomy below his vocal cords to lower the amount of damage done, and preventing more. it is unknown how long they will need to keep him sedated in the ICU nor how long they will keep him until discharged. his home is in Barriere BC, with his mother and two siblings, while his father lives and works in Alberta. the amount of love and strength is forever appreciated and never forgotten.. but this situation is putting the family in a stressful position when it comes to financial stability. his mother needs to stay down there with him, but has already missed a week of work and will be missing a lot more, so not only are there the exspenses of just being there, but the bills need to be paid at home too. it is unknown about his medical bills and what will need to be paid in the future, but for now we ask to help support the loving mother of tyler, so she can be with her son in this crucial time. thank you :) -Dylanne Richards
