HELP ME LIVE

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Della. I am a 48-year-old female and this is my story.

In January 2005, I was diagnosed with Lupus (SLE).  Lupus is a chronic auto-immune disease. The immune system is like a bodyguard against invaders, such as viruses, bacteria, and other germs.  Normally, your immune system works to fight off these invaders.  But in the case of Lupus, the immune system mistakenly attacks your own body's healthy tissues.  Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems, including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.

As a result, I lost both kidneys and ended up with End-Stage Renal Disease. I was placed on dialysis for nine years. In 2013, I was blessed with a transplanted kidney from a deceased donor.  Although it was a grueling process, the transplant was a success and allowed me to live dialysis free for three years. For those three years, I felt free to start my life again and started seeking employment to pay for the life-saving medication required to keep the transplanted kidney from rejecting. Since I had been out of work for ten years and no one wanted to hire me.

Just before Christmas 2015 Amazon took a chance and hired me on a part-time schedule to work in their warehouse in Georgia.  I had to walk 4 miles, take a train, and 2 buses just to get back and forth to Amazon on a daily basis to work a 4-hour shift.  Although the job provided me with some money to help pay some medical bills it was not enough to pay for the life-saving medications that are required.  These medications are called immunosuppressants and cost on average of $1,454.00 a month.

I am not eligible for Medicaid ( a few dollars over the guideline). I am only eligible for Medicare. Medicare coverage for End-Stage Renal Disease ends 36 months after the transplant.  In the end, not being able to afford these medications caused me to lose my transplanted kidney in May 2016.  I have been back dialysis for three years, three days a week.

It has taken me THREE years to work up enough courage to try another transplant.  The process to even be considered is OVERWHELMING! However, I WANT TO BE FREE AND LIVE AGAIN!

In the state of Georgia, transplant patients are required to fundraise pre and post-transplantation to help cover the cost of critical medication.  Which brings me to the reason I have created this go fund me page.

When I am blessed to receive another transplant, I have to make sure I can afford the medication to KEEP my kidney. I'm praying with the help of friends, family, and the kindness of strangers that you can help me to make it possible. No amount is too small and will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I WANT TO BE FREE TO  LIVE AGAIN!
