Update April 1: We have officially added low income Asian American students to our outreach base. In class instruction will not resume this school year. There will most likely be a resurgence for fall/winter 2020-2021. The last cases of covid-19 in America will probably be in August.
Update 4/03: Our grassroots and community driven nonprofits are reaching out to us more. Because of our wholesale buying power, fundraising ability, and the processes we started early on. Please know that you can donate to your favorite local Asian American organizations. We are not fundraising on behalf of other orgs. We do however, share material resources (very substantial at times) and information.
Update 3/26: It’s been a very hectic past few days. More of our grassroots community partners have bee reaching out to us and so have individuals in need.
Update 3/19: In light of extremely recent events, we’re adding a dream goal that no longer seems distant. We would like to establish an Asian American Women’s Shelter and an Asian American LGBQT Youth Shelter in the center of Los Angeles. There are approximately 100-200 Korean American LGBQT youth in Koreatown who are unhoused. In aggregate terms, there are many more Asian American LGBQT youth who are unhoused. We must make visible and stand in solidarity with marginalized Asian Americans.
Update 3/19: All my courses at UCLA will be online for the entire spring quarter and there will be no graduation ceremony. My brother, Elias, who is in 11th grade will most likely take all his classes online for the remaining school year.
Hello, my name is Camilla (Kamilah Sou-Yeon) Zadi. I am a fourth year Political Science major at UCLA. I am forced to take my courses online till the end of Spring Break. I am concerned that graduation ceremonies might have to be cancelled. I plan on taking a year off after I graduate to prepare for the LSAT exam and law school applications. I am trilingual. Besides English, I speak Korean and French. My family is multilingual and multicultural. My parents also speak a little Spanish. My family restaurant is also where Gidra was revived www.gidramedia.com by my mother, Susan Park.
My family started off helping a group of unhoused Korean American seniors and at-risk or on the brink Korean American seniors in mid February of this year. With the help of our supporters and our network of resources, we have made significant and meaningful changes by providing culturally relevant, in-language support. We’ve also provided culturally relevant foods while achieving food security for 50 elderly Korean Americans who had previously been food insecure.
Asian Americans and Asian American Communities in Los Angeles are disproportionately impacted by Covid-19. Business has come to a screeching halt in many Asian American communities. Asian American workers are being laid off at alarming rates. Subsistence level Asian American businesses are in danger of closing down. The most marginalized Asian Americans are at-risk including the elderly, those with existing conditions, and LGBQT folx.
Funds will be used for a mutual aid social movement and for necessities like groceries, prepared hot food, and supplies. We will provide culturally competent, in-language and bilingual support by working with community members and community driven grassroots organizations.
Funds are needed as soon as possible. Asian Americans fall through systemic cracks, because the system ignores us or is not equipped with culturally competent assistance and in-language support. We must organize to help our own across API communities. We also help folx of all backgrounds and nationalities. However, we feel it is extremely important to highlight the plight of Asian Americans because we were habitually left out of narratives of marginalization.
In kind donations can be dropped off at 1436 West Jefferson Blvd Los Angeles 90007 (address for Revolutionario North African Tacos) please email smokingkorean AT gmail DOT com for drop off times (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 am -9 pm are open to the public, but other times can be easily arranged).
Folx in need or volunteers who can drop off to folx in need can also come to Revolutionario North African Tacos to pick up care packages.

Supplies to make hand sanitizer: Isopropyl, hydrogen peroxide, glycerol, and spray bottles or other kind of container that can dispense sanitizer in a hygienic manner, e.g. a pump dispenser.
16 ounce and 32 ounce deli containers (can be purchased at Smart and Final, LAX-C, and restaurant supply stores)
Asian cultivars/varieties of rice : Calrose or Kokuho rice (Japanese-Korean rice, short or medium grained rice), Jasmine rice (long grain rice), and Basmati rice. We also need Uncle Ben’s rice.

Canned Mackerel
Instant Ramen (packaged and in cups, Korean and Japanese brands preferred because these are the most widely available, hence more familiar to folx)
Miso
Asian seasonings and flavor packets
Instant or prepared packaged foods (like ready to eat curry packets or miso seasoning packets that you can add water too)
Cases of fruit
Cases of meat (LAX-C or restaurant supply stores)
Hot dog wieners (please donate at least 50 wieners at a time)
Cases of individually packaged chips or snacks like granola bars
All kinds of Asian canned goods (we serve Asian American folx and communities throughout Los Angeles)
We also have access to wholesale marts and vendors. We can purchase cash and carry or order. We have ways to bypass retail store shortages.
