Gail Funk ‘s husband, Fred, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two years ago. In December 2014, scans revealed that the cancer had grown aggressively and spread to his liver.
Shortly after receiving this news, the family took a much needed trip to Florida. On the journey home, Fred’s health deteriorated rapidly. He now has been stabilized and released from the hospital, and is at home in the care of his family and hospice. Although hospice does come several times a week to oversee pain management, Gail and her daughter, Katie, are the primary caregivers for Fred. His medical care is a very consuming, and physically and emotionally demanding task.
Gail, or Mrs. Funk to most of our families, is legendary at Rumson Country Day School. She has greeted our children with a smile and hug for 21 years. Gail is one of the most kind, loving and generous people I have ever met. Through these last few years, she has never complained or let her circumstance affect how she supports and cares for our children. She has been so strong in the face of such an insidious illness wreaking havoc on the life of her loved one.
In hope to give back to Gail and her family, we are raising money to help with their medical bills and anything else the family may need at this time. Please help out as much as you can. Every single penny makes a difference. Let’s give Gail back the love she has given our children through the years.
