Shaving My Head for Charity

Tax deductible

Greetings lovely human creatures; I have made the decision to donate my hair to 'Sustainable Salons' and, when doing so have also decided to shave my head to raise money for 'Mind Australia'. I would absolutely love to raise $1000 for 'Mind' as I will be shaving a very thick and long head of hair, however, any and all donations are truly greatly appreciated, alongside any shares of this GoFundMe campaign page. (I am planning on doing this once I have achieved my goal of $1000.)

I have always wanted to try shaving my head but have never been brave enough, so committing to donating the hair to 'Sustainable Salons' and raising money for 'Mind' in the process is the push I need. Torquay's very own legendary barber, Jimmy ( @lord_clipperfist ) has accepted the honor of being the one to shave my head 'til it's bald and shining.

A bit about the chosen charities:

Sustainable Salons "send ponytails directly to wigmakers and to charitable organisations such as Variety and the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation (AAAF) to be made into charitable wigs". This short film sheds some great insight into what the charity achieves with its work, and just how much these wigs mean to the people on the receiving end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvIV8nx8-NM (*Sustainable Salons accept dyed hair*).

TW: *Mention of suicide*

Mind Australia "Mind is one of the country's leading community-managed specialist mental health service providers with a range of residential, mobile outreach, centre based and online services." ... "Mind works with people 16 - 64 years of age whose ability to manage their daily activities and to live in the community is impacted by mental health issues." Mental health is something that impacts all of us. Even if you're fortunate enough to never personally live with a mental illness, you will at least know someone in your life who is affected by one, and therefore, it will touch your life. Mental health has started to become a less taboo subject to speak about now, however, we're not all there yet. According to the health.gov.au website "Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 49 years" and it takes approximately 3000 Australians lives each year. The Office for National Statistics website lists that in 2020 4,902 suicides were registered in England alone, this is not including the other countries making up the United Kingdom. I myself have suffered firsthand from mental illnesses in the past, and know an alarming amount of people who also have so this is a charity that really means a lot to me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my campaign. Again, any and all donations are greatly appreciated and all make a huge impact in me reaching my goal of $1000 and, any shares of the campaign are just as greatly appreciated and important - let's change some lives together!

To close, another quote from the 'Mind' website: "By making a donation, you’re doing something amazing. Your donation buys something precious for a person living with mental illness – it buys them hope."
