Carolyn's Fight

Almost everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether it is through our own experience, a family member or a friend it has touched our lives in someway. Unfortunately it is an all too common part of life these days. If you have been through it, or know someone who has, you know that it is not the pink, yellow and blue ribbons and walks through the city that it is made out to be. It is painful, it is ugly and it is expensive. My sister Carolyn was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in June of this year. In July she underwent a Lumpectomy and Lymphadenectomy. The healing process has not been easy, and she is still fighting that battle. Treatment will begin as soon as the healing has progressed and when it does it will require even more fight from her. A lot more fight! She will begin chemotherapy and afterwards she will undergo radiation. The cost for care is really adding up. The copay for radiation is $50 per treatment. Therapy is $50 a day, 5 days a week, for 5 weeks. That is $1250 total, and that's just radiation! That's not including the visits to the many specialists she now sees on a weekly basis, chemotherapy or wound care...  Medical bills have already started to accumulate, and while insurance is covering so much of this process, the out of pocket costs are still astounding. Carolyn is the true definition of strong. She is a fighter and a survivor, she always has been. She has an amazing support system, family who believe it takes a village, and a husband and daughter who would go to the ends of the earth for her. I am asking as her sister, as your friend and as a fellow human being - please won't you consider donating something -anything- to help ease the struggle while she and her family fight this war. Even if we can take just 1 oz of the weight from her shoulders we have succeeded.
