Prayers for Missy/ Heart Transplant

Donation protected
Melissa Speck is 24 years old and is full of life and an inspiration to so many. I have known Missy since we were 2 years old and would play together at the playground. We have been best friends since 3rd grade and she will be my Maid of Honor at my wedding this summer.

Melissa needs your prayers and help; she is waiting for a second heart transplant.

At the age of 7 she found out that she needed a heart transplant. She waited 5 weeks and on August 7th, 17 years ago she received a new heart from hear guardian angel Bridgette. Thanks to CHOP and their amazing transplant team Melissa received a wonderful gift of life.

Throughout the years she has accomplished so many things and continues to be an inspiration to so many. She attended Catholic University of America and received her Bachelors of Art in Education studies. After college she then became a preschool teacher and was loved by so many of her students and parents. Missy then decided that she wanted to go further in her career and she is going to John Hopkins University and pursuing her Master’s Degree of Art in Museum Studies. Her goal is to work at a museum and be a museum educator, working to plan school programs and help design child friendly exhibits in museums.  She has been working as a Nanny for a family near her home in Maryland.

In the winter of 2013, Melissa became sick and was having complications with her heart. She was in the hospital for months and was then in and out from there on. They found that she needed 2 valve replacements which she received in December of 2013.

Melissa is one of the bravest, sweetest and most inspiring people that I know!

Throughout 2014 she began to have more complications and had numerous doctor appointments as well as being in about of the hospital. She was gaining fluid and the doctors worked on figuring out a way to reduce it. Melissa was then told that she will need a new heart, a second transplant.

On Tuesday January 6th 2015 she was placed on the transplant list as a status of 1B, since this will be her second heart transplant. The highest status is a 1A. Missy is currently at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Missy is no longer able to work as she is waiting for her new heart.

I have set up this Go Fund Me page, to help Missy out during these difficult times. I hope that as a community we can gather together to help Missy so that this is one less worry on her mind and she can wait comfortably. Please keep Missy and her family in your prayers and thoughts.

With Love and thanks,
