Dory's Fight for Life

Hi my name is Dory Ortiz. I come to you all with a humble heart to ask for your time and  help. Heres's a little background about myself. I am currently a Teacher Assistant and I have worked at elementary schools in Osceola County for over 15 years.  I have been happily married for 34 years and together we have three kids and 5 grandkids. My family is very important to me.

The reason I am reaching out to everyone is because of the unfortunate situations that have occured in the last three years. On Dec. 16th 2012
on a Saturday night, I went to a grocery store with my friend to buy a few things and the next thing I knew I went into a siezure and from what I heard I had died right there on the floor. They called 911 and came to find me in and out of conciousness. I was taken to the hospital where they ran tests and came to tell me that I had an subarachnoid hemorrhage meaning I had a lot of blood surrounding my brain and had to go into surgery right away or I would die.

I was air-lifted to Florida Hospital where they did a procedure called coiling. They go in through the groin with a catheter and add platinum coils to the aneurysm. The doctors told my family that I had a 20% chance to live. After over six hours in surgery, Thank God, I came out alive. This is something that has shocked us all and came out of nowhere especially since I have no history of smoking, drinking or high blood pressure.

I stayed in the hospital until the swelling of my brain went down. I lost 5-10% of my short term memory.  I was out of work for nearly two years and spent all of my savings on numerous medical bills.

I followed up on the aneurysm one year later. On Jan. 16th 2013, I had an angiogram where they found that the aneurysm grew larger and it needed to be recoiled and stented.  So once again I needed to have a procedure to give me a chance at  life. I am a woman of faith and I know that I have a lot of loved ones who stand by me and pray for my health. And with that being said, I survived my second procedure.

My annual angiogram was last Wednesday. The results came in that the aneursym was still not 100% to what they expected it to be. Therefore they had recommended that this time they do an open brain surgery to clip the aneurysm and give me a greater life expectancy.

My first instinct was to say " I don't want to do this" but after doing my research and speaking to my family we have all decided that this would be the best way to go so that it can finally be resolved permantley. My surgery is scheduled in June of this year and I am asking everyone to please donate to help me pay for the cost of my third and biggest surgery. Any amount will help and be greatly appreciated. I know that God kept me here for a reason and I will not stop fighting! Thank you all for taking the time to read my story and may God bless you all!
