Solar Power in Roatan, Honduras

Donation protected
Hi everyone!
I am a part of a club at Penn State called Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and we will be going on a trip to Roatan, Honduras right at the end of this semester. EWB is a club that uses engineering knowledge to design and implement solutions to issues of sustainability and quality of living for others. Our trip to Honduras is going to be a week long and we will spend our time constructing a PV solar array for a community in Roatan. The array we install will be put on a racking system that was designed by EWB to meet certain criteria for weather conditions and other considerations when building a system like this on an island. This array will help to power their water pumps, which is necessary because the pumps are currently running on electricity generated using diesel fuel. The use of diesel is harmful to the environment and it is very expensive, which limits the amount of water that can be pumped and the number of people who can afford to pay for water to be pumped to them. EWB has experience installing solar arrays in Roatan and we plan on continuing our relationship with this island. To expand our connection in Roatan we will also be doing presentations to school children to teach them about solar energy and we will be continuing dialogue with local community leaders. The money I am raising will go towards travel costs and some material costs that haven't been covered by club fundraising and grants. Thank you for reading about our cause and any contribution is greatly appreciated!
