Chelsie's Brain Cancer Battle

Our precious granddaughter Chelsie is bravely and fiercely battling brain cancer. She was having headaches that she thought were migraines. Her daughter Aubrie's first birthday was coming up on November 1, 2014, and Chelsie was working hard to get ready for Aubrie's 1st birthday party. The pain got so bad that she went into the emergency room on October 30, 2014, and after doing a scan of her brain, they had to take her into surgery that night to drill a hole in her brain to relieve the pressure. The next day on October 31, 2014 they took her into surgery again to remove as much of the tumor as they could. They could not remove it all because the tumor was so close to the brain stem. Our family had to celebrate Aubrie's first birthday in the waiting room at the hospital.
Chelsie is 22 years old, and has a type of cancer called Medulloblastoma, and it is rare in adults. It is usually found in children under the age of 5. Because of the location of the tumor her doctors recommended that she have Pro ton radiation as opposed to the traditional radiation treatment, and there are only a few facilities in the country who have the equipment to administer this treatment. Chelsie, her mother Tina, and Chelsie's 14 month old daughter Aubrie are staying in a hotel in Illinois, 200 miles from home, for approximately six weeks. The Pro Ton Center is treating Chelsie with chemotherapy and Pro Ton radiation five days a week.
Chelsie's father Zachary is staying in Lansing, Michigan with his and Tina's three other children. Zachary will be visiting them on weekends whenever he can. Tina and Chelsie have both taken a leave from their jobs, and the financial burden is growing. Let's all show our support for this amazing family and help with the financial challenges they face.
