New Wheelchair For My Dad

As most of my friends and of course my family know, my father is in a wheelchair. He has been a quadriplegic since before I can remember. For those of you who don't know what that means, he is paralyzed from the chest down which has made his hands and legs unusable. When I was 11 months old he was bucked off a horse. The accident caused his neck to break and it severed his spinal cord. My sister was on the horse with him and by the grace of God she was not injured. My fathers condition was severe, he was actually turned away from several hospitals because they didn't know how to handle the injury. My first birthday was spent in the hospital lobby, an event my father was not present for because he was in surgery. He missed a lot over the years due to his injury. This February makes 24 years since the accident. Unfortunately my dad has had the same wheelchair for the past 24 years and it is falling apart, literally. The backrest and the hand rims most notably are just about trash worthy. The wheelchair also no longer rolls straight. All of these things combined have made the chair not only very difficult for him to get around in but also very uncomfortable. The hard part is anything that is for handicap individuals is astronomically expensive. The even harder part, insurance doesn't or won't cover a lot of it. My dad is in desperate need of a new wheelchair, so I am asking for help from our family and friends to donate to help us get him one this holiday season. $3000 is our goal. That would get us a new inexpensive chair for him. But honestly anything would help. Even just a few hundred dollars could help us get some replacement parts for his current chair that could make it more comfortable and usable for him until the day we can get him a new chair.
