Julian left us far too early and, although we will carry with us the cherished and colourful memories experienced with him, we thought he was also worthy of recognizing and supporting a valid cause.
Someone claimed Julian's soul was made of music. He also enjoyed his participation and contributions to the Nepean All-City Jazz Band, an ensemble of highly-motivated and talented young musicians led by Mr. Neil Yorke-Slader. This is a group for which aspiring musicians must earn their spot. It is a not-for-profit organization, organized and run entirely voluntarily, outside of school-run programs for students between the ages of 15 and 19 - formative youth years.
The group has a long and illustrious history. They have had great success at Musicfest Nationals, earning Gold standing in each of the past 31 years. You can learn more at: www.nacjb.com
We believe Julian would have been pleased to have a contributing role in the perennity of the group's existence, continuing to provide valuable access to sharing and making music at an advanced level, mutual respect and lasting camaraderie.
To this end we have set up a Gofundme account where your donations can be received. Our objective is to raise funds entirely for the Nepean All-City Jazz Band, and particularly to create an annual financial award to be presented to the member who displayed generosity of spirit and character, giving unconditionally of themselves for the band's objectives and achievements during the year.
Julian had bonded with his trumpet. It has a distinctive copper bell. He enjoyed the dark, rich, buttery tones of the instrument. It suited his playing and preferences. If we are successful with this fund-raising effort, we would like to name the proposed recognition the Julian Zanetti Memorial Copper Bell Award.
Many asked the family what they could do, how they could contribute as we share the grief of Julian's passing. Nothing will undo the tragedy, but we think that creating an ongoing means to encourage and support youth in music as they develop into young adults would be a worthy and generous way to follow through on the desire to contribute.
Those who had the pleasure of having known Julian and shared some mind or physical space with him, know how generosity of spirit, appetite for discovery, passion, supporting the pursuance of success and well-being of his friends, depth, uniqueness and kindness were prevalent in him. Together, let us perpetuate these important characteristics in a symbolic, lasting manner.
