Jim Schwartz Medical and Travel costs

Donation protected
Sunday October 2nd, Jim was found unresponsive and rushed to our local hospital with the fear that he had suffered a heart attack. Later that day it was determined that he had suffered a brain aneurysm. Jim was then med-flighted to Mayo in Rochester, MN, where he remains today in ICU. We have set up this account to help Jim, and his family offset the medical and travel costs associated with his major medical event.

Below are updates from Jodi

Jim's family and I would appreciate prayers at this time, as Jim suffered a brain aneurysm yesterday morning and was airlifted to Rochester. He is currently in surgery. The last 24 hours are a blur, but I am so thankful that I was with him when this happened and called 911. Sunday morning, in the blink of an eye, everything changed… A ruptured brain aneurysm got me airlifted to Rochester, where they’ve taken great care of me. Surgery to repair went well; they also found a 2nd aneurysm that will be repaired later. I’ll be here for two weeks or so. I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and well wishes; I just want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart! A special thank you to Jodi for realizing I was in trouble and getting help. If I had been home alone, it would have been a much different story right now.

It has been one week since Jim had his ruptured aneurysm. I thought I would do a short update. Jim is doing well! Friday, he was more himself, while yesterday was an "off" day spent in his bed sleeping. So we are taking things day by day. They are still watching him closely, and he remains in the ICU.

Jim and I thought we'd do an update from surgery today. First of all, it was an extremely long day for all of us. Jim was scheduled for surgery at 8 am and didn't go in until 2:30 this afternoon. He was "in surgery" for 4 hours total, but only 15 minutes was his actual surgery time because they had to stop it. While removing his drain tube, they noticed some drainage consistent with infection. They replaced his drain tube. Unfortunately, the shunt can not be placed until he has been started on IV antibiotics (he was already started on broad-spectrum antibiotics), and they know the results of the cultures they took. It is a setback, and even though Jim feels miserable tonight, he is with us and stable. Jim gets to hang out in ICU for yet another week. He will have a long recovery from this. He doesn't appear to have any other deficits except for the hydrocephalus. That is another thing to be thankful for! Again, thank you to all who have taken the time to message, text, and call to see how he is! Jim and I talked about this today and how we appreciate everything!! This has been a life-changing experience for us, his parents, his brother and our kids.

Finally, some good news to share!! Jim had surgery today to remove his drain tube and then to have his shunt placed...and everything went great! Surgery was a success, and his physician told me, "he is a walking miracle!"! He is out of ICU even! He will be monitored for the next couple/few days. They want to build his stamina since he's been in bed for three weeks. He will also have rehab to help gain his strength and walk to ensure his balance is there before discharge. He told me tonight that his goal is to be home this coming weekend and trick-or-treating with Alli on Monday.

As we all know, these things can be a moving target. We anticipated that Jim would be released soon, but the original aneurism location is growing again. Another surgery will be completed soon. An update will be sent when we all know more.

I am happy to share that Jim texted me a selfie from the Mayo discharge area last night. He spent the night at the hotel with his parents and will be home today. Jim still has a long road to recovery and will be out of work for a month, we are told.

Thank you all for sending prayers and well wishes. Anyone who has met Jim will agree that he is a great guy who will always offer any help he can give and crack a joke or two to lighten the mood. Please help if you can and share this as well.
