JyPlantz Rooted Stories Multimedia Project

Hello! My name is Jyreika Guest. In May of this year, I started a plant page called JyPlantz as a way to connect with people through plants, empowering green thumbs, and hopefully finding peace and self-care within plant care. In September 2020, I decided to take clients and serve as a Plant Consultant offering plant dates, consultations, maintenance checks, and even plant rehabilitation services at affordable rates for any and everyone to hire me to help with their plant needs. 

Before JyPlantz, I was a full-time actor, dancer, poet, and intimacy director in Chicago. With the pandemic affecting the theatre community as it did, I, like many of my peers in the theater industry lost work and was unable to connect to people the same way on the physical stage. Yes, I still miss it. Being home more allowed me to look to my plants for a sense of purpose, thus JyPlantz. JyPlantz started with a love for plants and has slowly allowed me to reconnect to people in the way I know best; storytelling, my first love. 

I'm working on launching in Fall of 2021 a Multimedia Zine called "Rooted Stories." This is a mini monthly publication that engages plant beginners, lovers, and enthusiasts with plant stories, affirmations, tutorials, and all using sustainable materials. This publication comes with the first idea of telling our stories linked with our love of plants,  the effect they have on our lives, and ways to maintain our growing spaces. 

In order for this to come to fruition, I set a fundraising goal of $5000 (originally $3000 but raised due to equipment and editing costs) which I'm asking for your support as JyPlantz extends into different communities in a more effective, sustainable, and engaging way. This specifically covers equipment, travel, design, and editing costs since this will be a multimedia undertaking.

Honestly, whatever you can give, I appreciate it. As many people have told me to do (this year, especially) I'm asking for what I need. Of course, these are tough times, financially for many, so if this is not feasible, please know that I appreciate you.
